Description
Known as the world’s first sports car, the technical concept of the Sizaire et Naudin is far advanced for its time. This 1908 single-cylinder French beauty is one of 25 known to exist in the world – but she is no trailer queen! We rescued her from a Dutch museum in 1996 and gave her a much needed facelift. She made her debut at the Meadow Brook Concours d’Elegance and since then has logged more than 15,000 miles on rallies around the country. At one time the S&N was known as the fastest single cylinder car in the world, holding the 100 mile record at Brooklands by averaging more than 65 miles per hour. Other innovations were the use of independent front suspension and an unusual 3-speed transmission. It is a guy’s car in the truest sense, from the way it sounds to the way it drives. But the color makes it a chick magnet. Yes, it’s an original color. It’s French after all, and the car could be purchased in any color of your choosing. Ours is two shades of French lavender. It’s history is even more colorful! Our S&N was constructed in 1908 for Grand Prix driver Charles Jarrott. It somehow ended on top of an advertising sign outside a junkyard in France, where it was rescued by well-known automotive writer Kent Karslake in 1933. Karslake later wrote about towing the car home by a Bugatti. The car then went to Sir Francis Samuelson who raced the car in vintage sports car events in the U.K. in the 1950s. It was then sold and finally became a part of a museum in the Netherlands before coming to America.

That car must be a blast to drive at parades! What an entrance to make at a meet too. Thank you for sharing the pictures and story about it.
