Description
What’s in a name? If you’re a car and your name is Riddle, you tend to get double takes. You also get funny comments like “The owner of the Locomobile has a funny sense of humor.” If only they knew how important the Riddle name was to Ravenna, Ohio. The Riddle Coach & Hearse Company made fine coaches and hearses for almost 100 years. It brought fame to the city after several U.S. Presidents were carried to their graves in Riddle hearses. From as early as 1914 through the 1920’s, the company built passenger cars to special order. They were powered by a Continental 6-cylinder engine. The engine on our car is dated June 1915. The body is original and very unique, something you would expect from a carriage maker. Other unique aspects are the bronze adjustable pedals with up to 5 inches of travel. In the 1915 world of “one size fits all” cars, this was a huge bonus. It''s also equipped with a “fat man” slide up steering wheel. It is a great running car that graced the centerfold of the Horseless Carriage Gazette during the March-April 2009 edition.
